The paper presents the results of comparison of crustal deformation parameters calculated from seismic data using two methods: seismotectonic deformations (STD) and cataclastic analysis of ruptures (MCA). The calculations are based on the analysis of earthquake focal mechanism data (584 events) that occurred in the Altai-Sayan mountain region (ASR) from 1963 to 2021 with M>2. The comparison is carried out using four characteristics of the averaged tensors of seismotectonic deformation increments: the direction of the shortening axes, the Lode-Nadai coefficient, the geodynamic regime (STD regime), and the vertical component (ZZ). Two regions of the ASR were considered: (1) Mountain Altai and (2) eastern part of the ASR: the Tuva Highlands, southern part of Eastern Sayan Mountains and Southern Baikal region. Both methods clearly reflect the deformation processes occurring in the study area. The different approach to forming the analyzed selection in STD and MCA is reflected in the size of the area for which it is possible to calculate the deformation parameters.
